Sr. Nancy Swanson, RSM, Director of COURAGE
My name is Sr. Nancy Swanson, and I am a Sister of Mercy. As a nurse and social worker, my ministerial experiences have included a variety of roles in health care, counseling and education. Recently, I read The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. One of the main characters points out that “most people know what matters, the hard thing is choosing what matters.” For the last twenty-six years Courage has addressed something that matters-the lives of women and children. The compassion, wisdom, hard work, and spirit of Maureen Shields, as well as the gifts and generosity of volunteers, friends and benefactors, have made a tremendous difference in hundreds of lives. My hope is to continue in that same spirit that has made Courage such a meaningful endeavor. I understand so well that it is God’s work, and that it takes a diversity of gifts and the contributions of many individuals for the success of this ministry. Know that I welcome the opportunity to speak with you personally as we wok to further God’s kingdom by helping others.
